Update – LONG overdue!

I’m not quite sure what happened.  I swear I was just sneaking Halloween candy out of the pantry when I started noticing Easter candy for sale last week.  This is how I base life’s timeline, by the candy on display at the store or hidden in my pantry.  Whatever.  Don’t judge.

Now that I’m back in the proverbial saddle, here is an update on what has happened the past four months:

In November, we headed out to Washington, DC to participate with a Wacky team in the local CureSearch walk with new and old Wacky friends.  We also had the opportunity tour the home office of CureSearch and re-connect with “Hippy”, one of our First Descents “kids” from our 2012 camp.

We also started working with a fundraising consultant and began to build our “Case for Support” in building a Wacky Sports Complex.  Part of our research included a compilation of quotes from various coaches, umpires, players, mothers of our Cancer Cuties and volunteers.  Their confirmation of the impact the Wacky softball tournament has had on both our softball and cancer community was extraordinarily humbling.    Here is the completed Case for Support; take a look and spread the word.  It’s going to happen.

Nick visited me twice on Christmas Eve.  I will keep the details private but it was awesome!  Within the following few weeks, I was given the unused video taken when he participated in the mini-documentary for First Descents (Turning Point) back in 2011.  I also was given all the photos taken for his high school graduation – over a hundred of them that I haven’t seen since 2006.  My heart has been filled up with Nick memories, sigh.

We are preparing for our 2nd Annual Wacky Golf Tournament in Orlando, Florida on Monday, June 1st at the Heathrow Country Club.  Oh, the things we have planned for this year’s event!

Then Lee got a bee in his bonnet and thought it would be fun to do a Wacky hike.  I was so excited it wasn’t a marathon, I jumped on board.  Then I found out it is the Grand Canyon “rim-to-rim” hike – 7 miles down the south rim, 7 miles across and then 7 miles up the north rim… IN ONE DAY.  Within weeks, we now have a team of 30 participants – 2 of which have to be EMTs or physicians (for obvious reasons).  Our trek begins on June 16th and with each participant committed to raising $7 per mile with 10 sponsors, we hope to raise over $50,000.  I want to jump off board now.  Or off the Grand Canyon.  Whatever.  Don’t judge.

In two weeks, we head to the First Descents Ball in Vail.  This year we will have another one of our “kids” from camp come with us – “Yo Gabba Gabba”, aka Sam.  I wonder if he is a good hiker….
